Ramadan is the name for
the ninth month in the Muslim lunar calender. It is the time, when
all muslims get together and go extra mile to purify themselves as
human beings. During Ramadan, all muslims fast during the day time
throughout the month.
During the period of
Ramadan, muslims daily routine is changed all together as from the
start of the month, fasting begins and continues till the end of the
month. The idea behind this is to engage someone in the act of
worship and a way to improve the self. Also, the fasting is the
spiritual element that helps anyone to be kind and charitable and
avoid any ruthlessness.
Special prayers are
also done during this festival.
In 2012, Ramadan is
from Friday 20 July – Sunday 19 August (first and last date may
vary).
The end of Ramadan is
celebrated as Eid-ul-Fitr when families visit their friends and
relatives and exchange gifts. Everyone wears new clothes to mark the
celebration of this auspicious festival.
